The Gilbert Clinic

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world, with more than 2,100 years of documented history and clinical experience. It is an effective, non-invasive treatment option that encourages natural healing and improved functioning without side effects. Today, acupuncture is widely practiced around the world by thousands of physicians, dentists, surgeons and other healthcare providers for pain and many other health conditions. It has been endorsed by the American Medical Association, the National Institute of Health, and the World Health Organization.

Acupuncture aims to restore and maintain health by applying fine, sterile needles that stimulate specific points on the body. Acupuncture needles are metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently—not only from one person to another, but also from treatment to treatment. Most people will feel no or minimal pain. Some people feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed.

What to Expect from Acupuncture Visits

During your first office visit, you will receive a holistic examination including a lengthy (30-40 minute) discussion of your health concerns and lifestyle. This exam enables your practitioner to build a complete picture of your treatment needs and look at all the issues that may be contributing to your condition. This exam is followed by your initial treatment. Follow-up visits involve a quicker exam and check-in on progress and current concerns, followed by another 30-45 minute treatment.

Acupuncture treatments are performed in a relaxed environment with respect for your privacy. Needles are applied at specific points, and you will be left to relax in tranquility while they do their work. The length and frequency of treatments will vary depending on individual needs.
